Hi Silicon Valley,

It was inspiring to see that one of the largest companies in the world started out in such humble beginnings. A tech company building new technology with a couple of simple workbenches, a drill press, some bench-attached vises, and what looked like a couple of household toolkits was the kind of sight that could inspire many to create.

With the barriers to entry being so low for internet and social media startups, we don't even need garage nowadays. Today's entrepreneur is busy working out of the local library, home, starbucks, collaborating with friends on skype, twitter, friendfeed!

But wow, you are lucky man, getting to see the place where Silicon Valley truly started :-)

The garage was tiny, but it was the starting place for HP.

It was very inspirational to see it, and even more inspirational to see the little shed that Bill Hewlett lived in next to the garage at the very beginning.

I think we still live in the days were garage startups are possible, maybe even more so now with the web at our fingertips.

Wow, that's amazing. Is that really the garage where HP started? Man, I need to save those pictures to remind myself that you should never despise the day of small beginnings! That is really excellent. At one stage, I doubted whether you could do that again these days but now I'm confident that the way the industry has gone it is still possible to start your business from your garage and be successful.

Hi Brisbane,

I believe that most of the sessions are not video taped, though the keynote presentations may be. Not sure if those are for sale. I did have the pleasure of meeting Lucas Ng this week, who came over to San Jose for the conference from Australia, but I know that isn't an option for many people.

Kim,

The airport gods are good to me. The highway gods, not so much. I also find that the cost of a flight from Baltimore is often cheaper than out of Philadelphia. I just checked, and a direct flight in early December from BWI is about $65 cheaper ($224) than out of Philadelphia ($289) from the same airline. The price difference will probably grow as we get closer to December.

David,

It was nice to meet you in person. Thanks much for the heads up on the Barcampblock. It was a lot of fun.

Does anyone know if the sessions at SES are video taped?

Being over here in Australia means we don't get to go to all the good SEO conferences in the states. I'm sure the organisers could sell exclusive, overseas video packs to people like me.
