Yahoo continues to come out with more patent applications in the search marketing field. Three new ones were published today which provide some more details on advertising at Yahoo.
A thanks to Rachel Rosmarin at Forbes, for sending visitors over with her article Will Yahoo!’s Panama Click?. She points to the first 13 Yahoo Search Marketing patent applications I wrote about last week. There were five more that I uncovered and wrote about on Tuesday. That’s 21 patent applications in about a week.

A very simple question, but has been most difficult for me.
I have thirty-five years of experience in the business world, most of it without internet exposure, and surely not with any Internet Marketing experience. We have launched a business that addresses the needs of a niche market dealing with a disease that is somewhat rare, but might be affecting 25% of our population in the USA. Our motivations are not for money, but to help the people who are knowingly affected with a proven product that is affordable. To date most companies are addressing the situation by charging high prices to these people who have no choice but live a life of abstinence from food containing Gluten, which is readily found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. God has given us the answer; we desperately need help getting this answer to those affective with the disease. Bombarded daily with advertisement telling us we can place you in the top ten on the WWW is overwhelming. My question is how do we identify a great program provider? What are the key questions to ask them? I know how to throw money at our problem and come up with a super plan. The problem is we are a true start-up and our funds are very limited. We need help, can you be of assistance, at a minimum steering us in the right direction. May God bless you. Thank You!
Hi Ed,
The simplest way I can respond is to suggest that you go about finding someone to help you with a perspective similar to hiring an employee.
You’ll want to take a look at their qualifications, try to figure out if they are someone that you can work with in a meaningful way, perhaps look at references.
In talking with someone, part of the conversation that they should initiate is getting a sense of what your business plans and objectives are with your website. If they don’t try to understand what you are trying to do, and who your audience is, then you’ll want to question whether they really will be helpful.
Regardless of whether you have a large budget, or a low budget, it really helps you if you can get a taste of what an internet marketing company can do for you. A good search engine optimization (SEO) company can help make it easier for people to find your site in search engines for words and phrases that your targeted audience will look for.
But, it would probably reward you to find an SEO company that has a good understanding of marketing – something that you probably have experience with in your years of business – even without internet marketing experience.
I would definitely recommend that you learn a little more about SEO and internet marketing before going too far along – enough at least to be able to ask good questions of someone your might hire. A good starting point would be this document: Beginner’s Guide to Search Engine Optimization.
I also want to commend you in your efforts to try to help others with your business. I really like the approach that you are taking with your web site.
I encourage others who might have suggestions for Ed on things to look for in finding an internet marketer to work with, to make them here – no blatant sales pitches though, please. Thanks.
