My last Post was Five Years of Google Ranking Signals, and I start that post by saying that there are other posts about ranking signals that have some issues. But, there are other pages that you may want to look at while you are learning to rank web pages, and I didn’t want to turn people away from looking at one recent post that did contain a lot of useful information.
Cyrus Shepard recently published a post about Google Sucess Factors on Zyppy.com which I would recommend that you also check out.
Cyrus did a video with Ross Hudgins on Seige Media where he talked about those Ranking signals with Cyrus, called Google Ranking Factors with Cyrus Shepard. I’m keeping this post short on purpose to discuss ranking the focus of this post and the star. There is some excellent information in the Video and the post from Cyrus. Cyrus takes a different approach to write about ranking signals from what I wrote, but it’s worth the time visiting and listening, and watching.
And have fun learning to rank.
Bill, I’ve been learning from you since I started in this business. In fact, it’s not a stretch to say I would have trouble doing my job without the work that you’ve done – some of the most important work in SEO, in my opinion. To receive this validation from you is a huge compliment. Thanks for everything.
Hi Cyrus,
It has been a pleasure watching you learn and grow and share with others. Really nice job on your Success Signals. I hope that your new site does well, and you with it. 🙂
Lots of people do lots of things for ranking up their site , some people do follow paid method some people do organic but sometime people do follow both method but success doesn’t come up because of they properly don’t know how to use those methods. And nice to see your success signals.
Thanks for sharing these resources… very helpful. Keep up the good work, I’ve learned so much in your last post!
Hi Linclon,

Amazing,Bill i read also your Five Years of Google Ranking Signals post. I just want to know how i increase my page rank top 10 and website speed.
Bill, I am learning from you since I started my job. In fact, I am great follower of you so that i update myself more and more. Thanks for all the post which you shared with us. Thanks for everything.
Actually I’m curious to find out what blog system you are utilizing? I’m having some minor security problems with my latest website and I would like to find something more safe. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much for these articles, it’s been helping me with rankings and having a better clarity on how it works.
Hi Alan,
Good to hear that you are getting value from my posts.
I’ve seen you ask before about what blog system I am using with concerns about secutity. I don’t like to talk about what blogging system I am using, concerned about someone choosing to target my site. There are articles about improving security on websites, that suggest things like avoiding using “admin” as the default user name on your site. If you look, I’m sure a number of those will surface with a Google search.
Nice…Its highly informative post. I really enjoyed reading. Thanks
Hi Bill,
Thanks for sharing this resourceful information. I have checked the links which you have shared above.
Cyrus has explained very important factors in detail which are very understandable. Thanks to both of you.
When learning how to rank, SEO will always be present in the topic. When doing ranking one important is the keyword we need to know the words or phrases that searchers are using to find or to get answers to the problem that they are having in your world. Those should are the problems that an organization is actually working to solve, that your content will help them to solve.
Hi Alexane,
Knowing the audience your website may be targeting helps you when you choose keywords to optimize your pages for because those are the words that that audience will likely use to search using at search engines, and that they will expect to see on your pages when they arrive at them. It is what makes them confident that they have found a place that can help meet their informational and situational needs. So yes, learning to rank means learning about how search engines work, but it also means learning and listening to the people whom you see as your potential customers.
It’s hard enough as it is to explain to non-SEOs how to rank a webpage. In an increasingly complicated field, to do well you’ve got to have a good handle on a wide variety of detailed subjects
Thanks for sharing this Bill.
Some really good discussion on Google ranking, as always your blog always shares interesting and really useful content that helps in my day job immensely

Spend some time reading your article but I have learned a lot of things. Great article. Increasing your keyword rankings on Google is very important to my business. And you helped me understand more about how it works
Learning to rank can be accomplished in 2 ways (in my opinion)
1. Read articles, research competitors using SEO tools etc
Or
2. Take a good online SEO course and learn it right the first time…
I have an agency now, but it took me 7 years of research before really figuring things out… I recommend that people take a good SEO course in order to figure out how SEO works rather than a cheap DIY route.
Hi Taylor,
I am following the cheap DIY route. It is more intensive and in-depth than any course I could pay for, especially after looking at what is available. If I spend a lot of time digging through patents from Google and Microsoft and Apple, and Facebook, and looking at developer’s pages and blog pages from those sources, it is time that is well spent. If I could spend the money on a course that teaches as well as I could learn on my own, I would consider taking one of those, but I’m not seeing many worth taking.
Thank you so much for these articles, it’s been helping me with rankings and having a
better clarity on how it works useful content that helps in my real-time work
hi,
This is nice post for learning and having right articles to see you here and thanks a lot for sharing with us .
I’ve been doi.ng SEO for a while now, and learning how to rank has taken lots of time and experimentation. But it definitely pays off.
I really like the resources you shared in the post. The topic “Learning to Rank” is interesting itself. I use to read most of your posts.
Terrific article (and links around the place), Bill. Cyrus’ Google Success factors is an excellent piece and highlights that whilst no-one has the magic formula, the formula is doing what works. Clearly, things done in isolation don’t work, but as part of the mix you’ll get results.
Nice article. thanks, Bill. I really love SEO and digital marketing. Reading all kinds of good seo blog and article. BTW, what does “SEO by the sea” mean? HAHA.
Hi Bill,
I must really appreciate your useful informations it has really been helping me on the world of seo. God bless you!
Hi Essen,
I live and work near the Ocean For the last three years, it has been the Pacific. Before that it was the Atlantic.
This is a very informative blog, just wanted to comment and leave a thank you for the helpful information.
Thanks for sharing this resourceful informative Knowledgeable information. it’s been helping me with rankings and having a better clarity on how it works.
I’ve only just come across seo by the sea, but Bill, great articles, very insightful. I’m fascinated by Google’s application of AI and variably applied algorithm cross-niche, keyword and position. I have been studying semantics, AI, machine learning and looking at how Google is really using data to make better judgements about “quality”.
After all, we hear the old saying content is king, but, is that really true? I mean, hypothetically how can content be king if everyones interpretation of what is good is different? what about volume data analysis?
I am of the opinion that with Google’s vast access to data, it can process data on the fly in terms of user behavior and experiment with position shifting – to see which pages engage, which pages reduce people returning to organic search etc.
Hey bill,
Thanks for sharing such useful information with us. You are doing a great job by educating new digital marketers and bloggers about SEO and google ranking factors.
Cheers.
