Introducing Bill Slawski
My name is Bill Slawski. I am the owner Seobythesea, editor and author. I’ve been doing SEO and internet marketing consulting professionally since 1996 and posting to SEObythesea since 2005. I have learned about SEO as an administrator at Cre8asiteforums and while promoting sites for clients, and from reading
Patents and White Papers and applying what I have learned.
About Bill Slawski, President of SEO by the Sea
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the the University of Delaware, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Widener University School of Law. Working for the highest level trial court in Delaware, before then at the Superior Court of Delaware, for 14 years as a court manager and administrator and as a technologist/management analyst.
In the mid-1990s, while I was working for the Court, I helped a couple of friends put together a website for an online business they were starting. One had been seeking a new employment direction while the other had an empty office in the house he was renting for his legal practice. The first friend had taught me how to build my own personal computer using original equipment parts, and I paid the favor back by picking up a “Learn HTML in 2 Weeks” book and helped build a website for the new business.
Learning and Doing SEO
Updating the site became something I did, and I promoted it, and increased its visibility online for more than a decade. Shortly after launching the site, Alta Vista came out, and we decided to see if we could get it in there. We were able to. We did, and I was hooked on doing SEO. That is when I first began doing SEO. After that, I started working on and promoting other sites as well. That includes optimizing some sites for entities, and for Semantic SEO.
I found myself intrigued by search engines, usability, and how people navigate around and explore web pages. I continued my efforts performing SEO and internet marketing part-time until 2005, when I left the Court to work for an online marketing agency full time.
Since then, I have worked on various sites, including pages for Harvard Business School, Johns Hopkins University, The American Psychological Association, Baltimore.org, Zurich NA, Comcast, and Fearnet, helping them to be more easily found on the Web.
I’ve also been a founder and administrator for one of the best-known forums about internet marketing and usability at Cre8asiteForums and a contributing author for a couple of the most well-known sites online about search engine marketing, Search Engine Watch, and Search Engine Land. I have also written articles for the print publications Website Magazine, Search Marketing Standard, and Target Marketing.
Speaking at SEO Conferences
I’ve had the opportunity to speak at industry conferences such as Search Engine Strategies (SES), Search Marketing Expo (SMX), SearchLove, Advanced Local U (keynote speaker), Digital Marketing for Business Conference, SemTechBiz, Webmaster World’s Pubcon, and the Internet Summit in Raleigh, as well as a few international conferences in places such as Milan, Paris, and London, about topics such as search engine algorithms, universal and blended search, personalization in search, search and social, duplicate content problems, semantic search and knowledge bases, and entity optimization
